Just one thing. They managed to become the first athletes to bring Olympic gold to the country in pair skating on ice.

When two figure skaters Belousova and Protopopov began to lead in the sports arenas of different countries, our excellent figure skating school became known all over the world.

Thanks to Belousova and Protopopov, their devotion to the “figures”, perseverance and creativity during endless training, this beautiful sport began to develop rapidly in our country.

Yes, they, not afraid of the consequences, changed from one coach to another several times. We worked with those who most aligned with their principles and their desire to make figure skating not just a sport, but a part of the art. In the end, the skaters decided to train alone without being asked.

Outstanding athletes L. Belousova and O. Protopopov introduced new, unusual elements into this sport, which had never existed before. And then these movements, innovations, schemes from them became standard components when evaluating the performances of figure skaters.

It was Oleg and Lyudmila who showed how subtle, gentle and emotional ice dancing can be. That is not given to everyone. Only the most talented performers in this complex sport.

Partner skaters have been favorites for many years. But over time, this place of honor was ceded to representatives of the younger generation.

Both Lyuda and Oleg were still in excellent shape at the end of their careers. But they didn’t go at all. With their programs they went on tour at home and abroad. From a tour they decided not to return to their homeland. They had their own reasons for doing so.

And immediately the houses were included in the list of “negative” people, traitors, deprived of all titles and awards.

But they didn’t stop skating and performing. They settled in Grindelwald, Switzerland. Back then, it was the only place where you could rent ice and train all year round without a break. That’s how they lived, interrupted only by touring in performances on ice.

Her last appearance was in the fall of 2015 at the “Evening with Champions” held in the United States. Mila, as she was often called, was then 79 years old, and Oleg – 83 years old.

In 2016, Belousova was diagnosed with a terminal illness. She died in September of the following year, having not lived a bit before her diamond wedding to Oleg.
