Played in the madhouse: Viktor Sukhorukov on the actor's profession and why he doesn't like charity television

Hello! Viktor Sukhorukov is 70 years old. He’s one of my favorite artists of all time, and his acting rules, which Sukhorukov lives by, are very close to my heart. And after reading his interview he gave to Komsomolskaya Pravda on the anniversary, I felt very warm in my soul. I was particularly drawn to his testimony about charity on TV.

Dear readers, I warmly congratulate Viktor Ivanovich on his anniversary, wish him creative victories, interesting roles and health! Viktor Sukhorukov never ceases to amaze me with his talent, depth and skill! I’m not afraid of this word, but I consider Sukhorukov to be a real genius of the acting profession and perhaps the best artist, at least in our country. I can not name anyone who, like Sukhorukov, delved into roles (from his living colleagues). He lives his roles, really morphs into characters, and does so even in the smallest episodes and in downright commercialism, such as Fizruk. Sukhorukov is just wonderful in theater, excellent in cinema, and he is an example for me in many aspects of life, in acting principles. I often write on the channel about my attitude to filming in advertising, about our television, about the problems of theater, cinema and culture in general. And it was Sukhorukov who put a lot in my position.

He believes that a self-respecting actor cannot appear in bad advertising that deceives the viewer and completely contradicts the beliefs of the artist himself. Sukhorukov is sure that the theater is not a place for vulgarity and dirt. He believes that artists who go on talk shows and sell their dirty laundry, and even worse, co-workers’ dirty laundry, for money are betraying professional and acting honor. In general, I’m sure that as long as we have such artists with such an attitude, our culture will not die. It’s a pity that few artists share his views and follow his example, but they should. I found long ago that the stronger and more talented an artist is, the greater their scope and skills, the more valuable they are as a person and personality. But the “stars” who call themselves that have long forgotten the concept of honor and dignity. They will sell themselves for money and are willing to do anything if they would only talk about it. Do you agree?

In his native Orekhovo – Zuyevo with his monument

Yes, and now there are few artists willing to work on roles, not sparing themselves, digging their heads into the picture and spending money. Most exist in cliches or superficially, but Sukhorukov approaches each role with great difficulty. At the theater university, the masters told us how Viktor Ivanovich was preparing for the role in the film “About Freaks and People”. He asked everyone to call him only by the name of the hero, moved to a rented apartment, stood in front of the mirror for hours and was loaded into another personality. His local colleagues saw before our eyes how he was changing. He had a different look, a different voice, different manners, and everything physical and mental changed. However, the film was very difficult and scary. Sukhorukov then did not get out of the picture for a long time and even thundered into a psychiatric hospital. This is skill and not just antics for the camera with a learned text.

Be sure to read his full interview, and I want to discuss Sukhorukov’s statement about charity with you. The journalist asked him what he thought of charity and whether he would be willing to donate part of the fee to those in need. His answer surprised me:

No I do not want to. let others do it. I tell a story! Recently they collected 150 million for a sick uncle, and then a criminal case was opened against him. Because when it came time to buy medicine for the child, the money was not enough. where are the millions It turned out that the uncle had bought a car and when he was told: “What are you doing? Did people raise money for your child?” – “And I agreed with one company – they promised to get an injection cheaper. Turned out to be a scammer”

I don’t trust donations like this when they’re collected via SMS on TV. It all looks very strange. They show officials in expensive suits on the news and then help the boy as best they can. It’s kind of a shame. Sukhorukov continues:

An excellent example is Zhanna Friske … Later, her relatives will say that she was going to leave irretrievably. And yet they called the craze, and fans of their talent began to raise funds. And they collected millions to later show us a “show” on TV: How her father fights with his son-in-law for millions that nobody can find now. We have the Department of Health and Social Protection that should look into this. Because one is helped, but what about ten?

Sukhorukov says he helps in other ways. He made debut films for students for free, bought food for people on the street and so on. And isn’t he right? It’s very interesting what you think about it and I agree with you.

In the performance of the Vakhtangov Theater “Smile at us, Lord!”

With all his merits, awards and fame, Viktor Ivanovich remains a very simple person. He often rides the subway, loves to walk the streets, doesn’t refuse anyone a photo or an autograph. He is not a star and not a celestial, but a very sincere person with a big heart. Even leaving the theater of the Moscow City Council, he did not make a scandal and showdown, as is now fashionable, and asked journalists not to make a fuss about his departure. Although in an interview with Komsomolskaya Pravda he clearly said that he left certain people who treated him roughly and ugly. (director Eremin and artistic director Marchelli). Another would have complained, walked on social networks and talk shows, but Sukhorukov just left and continues to engage in creativity, not quarrels. Now he can be seen at the Vakhtangov Theater in the play War and Peace by Rimas Tuminas as the elder Bolkonsky. Haven’t seen it yet but they say it’s great. And in other performances by Vakhtangov, for example, “Smile at us, Lord!”

Happy Anniversary Genius!
