Lonely backyard kitten finds dog for a friend

The kitten ended up all alone in the backyard and eventually found someone to keep him company.

A Phoenix, Arizona resident was feeding stray cats, and one day she noticed a kitten in her backyard with no sign of her mother.

She waited a long time, hoping that the mother cat would take the child, but in vain. Then a kind woman picked up a kitten and told local animal rights activists Jin’s Bottle Babies that they needed help.

“She was very concerned that the kitten was crying all the time, so she brought it to us,” says Shelby Uehara, founder of Jin’s Bottle Babies. “The kitten was cold, full of fleas, and weighed about a third of her normal weight for her age.”

The kitten had very low hemoglobin and was malnourished. At three or four weeks old, she (this girl) weighed as much as a week old.

She was washed and warmed up in a cozy new bed. While the girl did not have enough strength to eat on her own, Shelby tube-fed her by the hour. The right medication, care and love helped little Eddie recover and grow.

Shelby’s dog Ava, who has a thing for kittens in need, also offered to help. Whenever Ava heard a tiny meow, she would hop over and sit with the kitten for the rest of the day.

She watched little Eddie take his first steps and play.

“My dog brings and leaves toys (for the kitten) from time to time so Eddie doesn’t get bored,” says Shelby. “It’s so cute to see the kitten playing with the toys Ava brought.”

Puppy Ava herself was once a rescued student of Shelby’s and lost in her soul. She provides invaluable help whenever Shelby brings home new charges. “Ava loves kittens, kisses them and gets very upset when they cry.”

Now Eddie is roaming around, checking the area, and Ava keeps an eye on her. She carefully ensures that the girl does not go too far.

A cute dog gently and lovingly licks a kitten. “Eddie really loves my dog. I think she will become a reference cat queen,” adds Shelby.

In just a few days, the girl noticeably plumped up and became much more energetic. She eats well and enjoys life in the house.

“Eddie is pretty and cheeky but super cute. She likes to live between soft blankets, she loves to be petted and she loves to sit next to her, Shelby shares. “I’m already starting to play a lot and learning to be a kitty in general.”

The little loner will soon be able to join other foster kittens, among whom she may find friends of the same size to fight with.

Ava has been extremely supportive of Shelby in caring for Eddie. The caring dog is always ready to help anyone who is carried over the threshold of his home.

Jin’s Bottle Babies rescuers returned to the area where they found Eddie to help out the local feline community: get vaccinated, get spayed, get spayed.

“So that no more babies are born there who are infested with fleas.”

Eddie thrives on being in good company all the time. Ava doesn’t stray far from the kitten in case her little friend needs another toy or playmate.
