Daniel Popper and his incredible living sculptures

South African artist Daniel Popper is known for his colossal figurative sculptures and stunning art installations at arts and music events around the world.

From a giant goddess at the Electric Daisy Carnival in Las Vegas to a 12m tall forest god at the Boom Festival in Portugal, his work brings magic and fantasy to any place they inhabit.

One of Popper’s latest sculptures, Modem Swamp, is an epic 8-meter female figure at a festival in Croatia. Crafted from steel and fiberglass and covered in concrete, the whimsical figure holds a mask in front of her face that hides the wild jungle growing inside her skull. At night, projection mapping makes the piece look like it’s changing color and material – at one point it even looks like it’s made out of chrome.

In another 2019 work called ANIMA, Poppers created a 7 meter tall figure that resembled mother nature and appeared to be blowing kisses to participants in the Electric Daisy Carnival as they entered the venue.
