A little lion cub fell into a ravine and slid down and down
The French nature photographer Jean-Francois Largo has managed to capture unique images of the life of a pride of lions.
About the parental instinct of the king of beasts.
What do we know about the life of an amazing African predator, apart from the fact that it has often been chosen as a heraldic symbol? Until now, it is depicted on the emblems of several European powers – Bulgaria, the Netherlands, Finland and Norway.
In nature, everything is subject to the survival and adaptation of species, and scientists have long known about the tough “charters” of lions.

The pride of lions consists of female relatives, their offspring and indeed the owner of the pride, the male. The lion’s mane somewhat complicates the hunt for the lion, contributes to overheating of the body, therefore in the family it performs the function of the head and protector. His wives provide food for the pack, they also take care of the young.

Males rarely live to the age of ten and regularly fight over territory with competitors. And among the offspring, only a fifth survives, because the male who won the fight for the pack destroys the offspring of his defeated predecessor.
But there are still instances that characterize these powerful predators as loving parents no less capable of self-sacrifice than humans. One of these stories took place in the vastness of Kenya’s national park.

The lion cub became a victim of curiosity and fell into a deep ditch. He wasn’t strong enough to scale the craggy clay wall. Holding on to himself with claws, he slowly and inevitably slid to a depth of several meters. The kitten’s desperate cries were immediately heard by several of its adult relatives.
Three lionesses and two cubs even began to descend to the baby to help, but the soft ground crumbled under their heavy bodies. Four of the animals left this idea and returned to solid ground, and only one female fearlessly continued to descend to the frightened cub.

It seems that this was the baby’s mother, because how else to explain her willingness to risk herself? Luckily, the lioness’ strength and flexibility allowed her to catch the child midway and climb up. It is not known if the mother did the “suggestion” without hearing it, but she licked him for a long time – either to comfort him or to wash him.
