They joked, but it turned out that they had written something immortal: the story of the song "Uno Momento" from "The Formula of Love".

Mark Zakharov’s film “Formula of Love” was released in 1984. “Neapolitan Song”, better known as “Uno Momento”, became a hit. As the composer Gennady Gladkov said: they joked, singing silly lines, but it turned out that they had an imperishable …

… It so happened that the actors Alexander Abdulov and Semyon Farada wanted their heroes, the servants of Count Calliostro – Jacob and Margadon – to have their own song. It had to be written urgently, and the poet Yuli Kim (who wrote songs for Mark Zakharov’s films) was not in Moscow at that time.

Zakharov asked composer Gennady Gladkov to quickly compose something in the spirit of Neapolitan romance, he was confused. It only took a few seconds:

“I remember it was a historic moment. At first Gena was in despair, then he opened the lid of the piano and immediately sang both music and words, ”said Mark Zakharov.

“And we were studying Italian terms at the conservatory, and I remembered the expression ‘uno momento’. Well, I started composing music on this subject. Zakharov rolled with laughter, ”said Gennady Gladkov.

Abracadabra, composed of different Italian words, was so liked by the director that he decided not to change anything. Unless a trusted foreign language faculty student helped finalize individual lines so they rhyme.

At that time, all official works of art had to be “lit” (i.e. approved) by the art council. When the creators of the “Formula of Love” presented the text with the lines “mare, bella donna e un bel canzone…”, they had to translate it immediately. Realizing that it was just a set of words, they defined the composition as ‘Neapolitan folk song’ and authorship was noted as follows: ‘Gladkow’s words and people’.

The people of Naples would be very surprised. Eventually, the lyrics would sound like this to them:

sea, beautiful woman

and a wonderful song.

You know that I love you, always love you.

beautiful woman, sea,

believe sing

give me a moment

which I like better.

A. one moment

A. one, one feeling

A. one, a favor

A. a, a secret.

In the film, however, Jacob Mashenka explains this text in his own way:

“This song is about a beautiful Italian girl. One day her lover went to sea and did not return. She cried for a long time, then took off everything and entered the stormy sea. And that abyss swallowed her up in an instant. In short, everyone died.”
